Catalyst 2014

Catalyst has been going on in Atlanta.  I wish I had been there, but I have been following the Catalyst hashtag (#Catalyst14) on Twitter like a stalker.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from just two of the amazing speakers.

“The pain of recovery is sometimes worse than the pain of the injury. Allow Jesus Christ to heal your soul.”
“We have a lot of leaders that want to change the world, but don’t want to change themselves!”
“We must refute the lies of the enemy with the truth of God’s Word.”
“If Jesus is not enough for the Church/Christians, how can we claim He is enough for the world?”
“The church isn’t reaching the world because it’s too busy keeping Christians on life support.”
“If we don’t build our Spiritual Core our world is going to collapse.”
“Praying the sinners prayer does not heal you. It saves you…”
“We need to replace the lies of the enemy with the truth of God; to do so we need to know the truth of God.”

“The church must capture and keep the minds and hearts of students.”
“If we start to dumb down what has been made clear, where does that stop?”
“The church must stop expecting outsiders to act like insiders, while insiders act like outsiders.”
“The church should be the safest place on the planet to talk about anything, including same-sex attraction.”
“Jesus doesn’t take sides; He takes over.”
“Christians need to be known not for what we’re against, but for Who and what we are for.”
“Why create churches for 50-year-olds and let culture have the students?”
“What is this generation of students worth? EVERYTHING!”

Easy Button

You know Staples's Easy Button? I want one of those. Not to buy office supplies. I want one to deal with difficult things in life.
A long day and too exhausted to cook supper? Push the button.
Your groceries are running out before your budget is? Push the button.
You finally save up enough money to purchase floor for your house and you find out your foundation has to be repaired. (Grrr!) Push the button.
Hurt AGAIN by the same person? Push the button.
Unfortunately, life isn't easy and there isn't a button. In times like this I am glad that I have my Bible. The cover is worn, the pages are frayed, but the words are ever true and God's shoulders are forever comforting.
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you;
he will never let the righteous fall. - Psalm 55:22

What Is The Second Most Requested Item By The Troops?

Today the boys and I went to Lifeway to pick up a book. While we were there the clerk told us that we could purchased a Bible for $4.99 to send to the troops as a part of Operation Worship. We were told that Bibles were the second most requested item with candy being the number one. We were proud to purchase a Bible as a way to support the men and women who are so selflessly serving our country.

Little Guy sat down and wrote the following message in the front of our Bible:

Thanks for risking your life for us.
Thanks for fighting to keep us safe.
Thanks a lot.

If you are over near Lifeway, why not stop in and spend $4.99 to support our troops!

Memory Bible

I have two Bibles. One is for Tanner and one is for Todd. They are very simple Bibles, but hopefully they will be very special Bibles. I don't know what to call them except memory Bibles. When I was pregnant with the boys I asked our parents to pick our Scriptures of "blessing" for our boys. That is the first Scripture that I marked in the boy's memory Bible. Out in the margin I wrote why that is marked.

When Todd was two, he was healed from leukemia. Our church laid hands on Todd the day before he went back to Blair E. Batson. Scripture is underlined in Todd's Bible to memorialize that event in his life and it is journaled for him.

My hope is that by the time they graduate from high school and leave home, I will have a Bible full of events underlined and journaled in these memory Bibles. When they leave home they will have a tangible reminder of all the times in their lives that God has been with them, protecting them, blessing them and guiding them and how He will always be there.

Cell Phone vs. Bible

This arrived in my email this morning. A good comparison!

CELL PHONE vs. BIBLE I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone? What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?What if we gave it to Kids as gifts? What if we used it when we travelled? What if we used it in case of emergency? This is something to make you go..hmm. Where is my Bible? Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.Makes you stop and think 'where are my priorities?' NO REJECTED calls!

NO FLAT BATTERY !!!!

NO 'pls call me' coz He will call on you ALL THE TIME!!!!
