Exploring the Children's Museum

Since our friends were here we decided it was the perfect time to go and check out the brand new MS Children's Museum.

We are museum people.     Children's museums, science museums, art museums, history museums... you name it and we love them.     When we visit a new city, we always check to see what museums they have that we can visit.       We were anxious to see how the new children's museum compared to all the others we had visited.

One of the first things the kids discovered was this crane/building section.    My friend and I finally had to find a bench because they spent so much time here.      As much as the kids LOVED this crane, we do worry that they may have to either move this or remove this.     We hope they keep this feature because it is so much fun, but we do hope they move it to a little safer place where some unsuspecting preschoolers doesn't get knocked over by a swinging beam.

We got tickled at how huge Big Guy and Star were in the cab of this tiny little tractor.     It was in the preschool section after all!

Big Guy immediately said the museum was going to be a success when he saw it had a water feature.    A Mississippi river water feature no less.     He firmly believes every children's museum needs a water feature of some sort.

Little Guy with the Mississippi catfish.     Mmmmmm, yummy!

How fun is a life size Scrabble board?    This thing was HUGE.   The board would fit in our living room.

I wish I had the sound proof room that they had all these instruments in.   The boys were having the best time playing all these instruments.

By far, the kids favorite part of the museum was the velcro wall.

There is so much to this museum.   An art room.   A miniature Mississippi for preschoolers to explore.    A huge kitchen with tons of Melissa and Doug food.    A human digestion maze with sound effects. (hysterical)    A forest that teaches about MS agriculture.    A puppet studio.    Read Between the Lions stage and reading room.

On the way home we couldn't quit talking about how much fun we had.     No doubt about it.    The new MS Children's Museum is one of the best we have seen and we have seen a LOT.     We are Mississippi PROUD!

Looks like you had a great time! The children's museum here in Atlanta is specifically for preschoolers, which is kind of a bummer, but apparently there is a Science museum north of town a little ways that we need to check out.

Often I swallow hard and blink as I read your blog.
Yep, you take me back to priceless days...
Where did they go?
One of the many things I love about you is you SEIZE the days with these treasured boys.

Carpe diem!!!

I'm SO glad you posted about this. I've been wondering, and was a little skeptical, about the new museum. All the reports that I heard - I was afraid it was going to be too babyish for older kids. Can't wait to take Mini-me!

I really need to take my kids soon. Sissy will love that big Scrabble board! And last time we went to a children's museum in Chattanooga I couldn't get Boomer away from the water.
