Preparing for Catastrophe

six bottles of water
2 bottles of sweet tea
two flash lights
various bags of chips and snacks
bottle of Advil

I decided to clean out my hall closet today to see what school supplies I had left over from last year and what supplies I might need.   In the process of cleaning and organizing, I found the things listed above.    They weren't all in one place, but stashed all over among the sheets and blankets.

As I kept pulling out each random discovery I could not figure out why all of it was there.   Big Guy walked through and picked up a bottle of water.

"Do you have any idea why this is all stuck in the linen closet?"

"Sure.  Little Guy puts it there so that we will have access to it when we are hiding here during tornado warnings.   If the news mentions we need it, he puts it in here."

As I tucked all of his supplies back into a special box and put it into the closet, I prayed that I can pack his heart with the knowledge that God is our greatest protection.

You are my defender and protector, You are my God.  In You I trust!

He Fought The Good Fight

Two nights ago I had a dream that I received "the text" from my friend Dianna that said our sweet Cade had gone to heaven.    I woke up and went immediately to pray.    God has talked to me this way before so I knew this was his way of preparing me.

We got up today and packed the car to head to Biloxi.   Big Guy had a State Archery competition for the weekend.     We were in the middle of a blinding rain when I realized that something was wrong.    Dianna confirmed that I was right with two words, "He's gone."

We pulled over and shared with our boys.   After spending some time in prayer we started a very quiet drive back home.

Our emotions are so mixed tonight, but as we had family prayers Big Guy summed it up best when he prayed, "Lord, thank you for answering my prayers for Cade, but I didn't know it was going to hurt so much."

Please keep our precious friends, Danny, Dianna and Calli in your prayers as they (and we all) adjust to life without Cade.

Cade, you fought the good fight!
You finished the race!
You kept the faith!  (2 Timothy 4:7)
Enjoy heaven!
We miss you already.

Branded By The Cross

This is Laminin. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this molecule, Laminin is the protein that holds human beings together. Do you notice its shape? Isn't it amazing that God would think so far in the future, and make the very thing that makes us think of Jesus, make up and play a crucial role in how we are formed? God formed you to not only live as an image of Christ, but to never escape the fact that you are HIS! We are branded by the Cross! "He is before all things, and in him all things hold together" Colossians 1:17

Hump Day of Summer

Tomorrow is July 4th.   While everyone is thinking fireworks, grilling, parades and "Happy Birthday, USA!', in the back of my mind I always think of it as the hump day of summer.    As soon as this holiday is over the stores will clear the shelves and pack them with Back to School items.   Sale papers will start coming out with weekly sales preparing for the first day of school.

You might be thinking: "You homeschool.  Why are you freaked out?"   I will tell you.   I am NOT ready!   Can we just take a vacation from this year?  No??  Shoot!

Summer..... SLOW DOWN!!!!
