I Need A Brick

Growing up whenever my Daddy thought we were growing too fast he would say, "Do I need to put a brick on your head?"    Of course we would always say "No, Daddy!" and walk away thinking he was being so silly.

Tonight as we were having family prayers all of a sudden I heard this distinctly "male" voice.   I admit it.    I opened my eyes.   I knew it without opening my eyes, but somehow I just needed to see that voice coming out of my little boy's face.    When did Big Guy's voice start changing?

Just last week he walked in and said, "Mom, whenever we have the money I think I need new church shoes."    I took him this past weekend and he wasn't kidding.    His foot had grown two shoe sizes.     How did his feet grow so quickly?

He is tall enough to kiss me goodnight on the cheek now, but I still vividly remember him wrapping his little arms around my legs and saying, "Mama.   Mama.   Up!  Up!"

Two weeks ago after class he asked if we could make a stop at Game Stop.   This isn't an unusual request for him since this is his absolute favorite place to go and the only place he would willing "shop".     I knew he had a gift card so I agreed.      When Big Guy and Little Guy walked out, only Little Guy had a package.    Big Guy was empty handed but had a huge grin on his face.     His purpose for going to Game Stop?   To buy his brother a new game to play on his Playstation.      When he did become such a joyful and sacrificial giver?

I took this pic of him this past Monday.     He was sitting in that chair and turned on Sesame Street because he knows how much MM and LK love the opening song.    They ran to sit with him.

Wasn't it just yesterday that my Big Guy was the same size as MM and LK?     I think I need to put a brick on his head.

What a sweet post! Your boys seem like such wonderful kids. It is so obvious how much you love them, and how much they love you back. Your family is an inspiration to me :-)

It's bittersweet to see our kids growing up. I was outside watching BK play in the backyard today and I told her that when we first got her swing set, her little head didn't even reach the top of her slide. Now she's at least two heads taller than it. It's just not fair that the time goes so quickly. I'm hoping to learn to slow down and enjoy each day a little more.
