Saturday Savings: Popcorn & Poprs

O.K. So today's Saturday Savings is going to be relatively short and simple since I am going to be playing with my boys. It is the last weekend of freedom before school starts.

However, hopefully you will enjoy this money saving tip as much as I have.

Do you enjoy microwave popcorn? We do and we enjoy it a LOT!

I have discovered that we can skip buying commercial boxes of popcorn and make our own for about a quarter a bag.

Here is what you do:

  • Get 1 brown lunch bag.

  • Mix together 1/4 cup popcorn kernels, 1 teaspoon oil and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

  • Pour into brown bag.

  • Fold the top over once and staple with 1 (and only 1) staple.

  • Press extra air out of the bag.

  • Put in the microwave and pop just like you would a regular microwave bag.

  • Serve.

You can sprinkle with Popr's! I highly recommend butter and taco!!

Delicious microwave popcorn for a quarter? That is a Saturday Savings for me!

"You're A Winner!"

Who wouldn't want to get an email with that subject title? And it wasn't SPAM! In an earlier blog I told you about the Popr's contest? Well, I won! Out of all the flavors it was hard to decide, but I finally decided on butter and taco. When they arrive and we have a chance to try them out, I will let you know how they are.

You Think My Husband Will Eat Green Beans??

I just posted on hiding veggies to try to get my kids to try to squash and then someone posts a comment and lets me know about a Poprs contest. What is Poprs? I didn't know either until I went and found out about the contest. Poprs is a sprinkle that you can put on your food to encourage your kids to eat their veggies and other foods that they may turn their nose up at. Now, like I have told you before, my boys aren't picky eaters, but there are a few things that I am working on with them.

The Poprs look kind of fun and might encourage them to try a few new things. They come in lots of flavors:

Try Cinnamon on applesauce.
Try Colorburst on yogurt.
Try Chocolate on pudding.
Try Strawberry on Cereal.
Try Raspberry on yogurt or ice cream.
Try Butter on corn or other veggies.
Try Taco on mashed potatoes.
Try Buffalo on broccoli or other veggies.

Who knows? Maybe I'll find a flavor that will get my husband to eat green beans. Nah!
