In Luke, we find Jesus facing off with satan. Satan was on a mission to tempt Jesus. After 40 days in the wilderness without food or water, satan figured that he had the perfect thing to tempt Jesus with -- hunger.
So, satan taunts, "If You be the Son of God, change these stones into bread." I can just imagine Jesus calm turning to satan and saying in a very even voice, "Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God!"
Can you just imagine how that must have burned satan up? He tried and he tried, but he just couldn't.
Each and every day I am more and more convinced that those words that Jesus spoke in the dessert are more than true. They are vital. I can skip a meal. I can even survive without a day's meal, but if I skip a day of reading my Bible, I really become spiritually malnourished.
When temptations come, I want to be able to say no and drive satan crazy too. Or as my Mammaw used to say, "Give the devil a black eye!"

Amen, give him two black eyes to go along with his black heart.
Temptation seems to be everywhere and you are right if you fight back it not so hard to give satan a black eye...

I was just reading Matthew this morning and shared from this gospel as well. So much food for our mind, heart and soul! May we remember He is the food of life and nothing on this earth can ever fill that place that hungers deep inside of us!
Blessings,
Jill

So true !! If no foundation exist in the Word of God ! We are weak to the lies of the devil. Jesus is our filling station! I want to be that kind of woman when my feet hit the floor the devil says, "Oh Crap she's awake."
I love that font! Happy WFW!
it's been so hard for me recently not to give in and do what i KNOW that mean ole devil wants me to do. it's like trying to harness in 50 wild horses. BUT, i just keep praying for strength.

Very well said! I love the picture and Scripture, too!
I always wonder if I would be strong enough to handle those temptations. And, then I realize, that I am faced with temptations every day and that all things are possible with Christ.
