Bumpers Drive In has a Discover Mississippi Scholarship available for all high school juniors and seniors. All that is required is that students visit 12 locations and get their Bumpers "passport" stamped. My niece, who is a high school junior (boo hoo!), still needed some stamps on her passport so she and I hopped in the car yesterday morning and went driving around Central Mississippi.
Bumpers is a funny little restaurant. There are often two restaurants in one tiny little town (like Canton), but none in a larger town like Flowood. That means we were in the car from 9:00 until 1:00 trying to get just seven stamps: 2 in Ridgeland, 2 in Canton, Yazoo City, and 2 in Jackson.
I enjoyed having this time with my niece. She was the first grandchild in our family and when she was little I used to get to babysit her all the time. She was literally our first "baby". At a time when we thought we wouldn't be able to have our own children, we were thrilled to be able to spoil our precious little niece. If my sister needed a sitter we were happy to be there.
Having those few hours yesterday in the car we were able to talk, laugh and just spend time together. We both enjoy photography so we kept seeing things we wished we had our cameras to photograph.
She is such a special young lady and I am so lucky to be her aunt. I love you, J!
