WFW: Pumpkins

Have you ever read the Pumpkin Patch parable? My boys love that book. It is all about how a farmer (Jesus) reaches down, picks out a special pumpkin from his garden, scoops out all the messy "goo" to make room for His light to shine inside.

I think about that book every year when people are buying and carving pumpkins. Scooping out all the slimy, gooey, yucky gunk that is on the inside. I wonder if that in any way resembles what Jesus has to take out of us when we come to Him and ask Him to forgive us of our sins. When I think of some of the things I have done in my life, I hate to think of all the gunk it probably left in my heart. I know this sounds silly, but I hate to clean my bathroom and that is just after a couple of days. I can't imagine how dirty my heart was the day I asked God to clean it after the years of sin that I had accumulated.

God is my strength and my redeemer. He is the only one who would die on a cross to clean the goo of my heart. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord!

We have that book and I have used it when teaching children's choir and other things at church...then one year it was my turn to read to Sissy's class at school...public school. We were going to the pumpkin patch soon and I took the Pumpkin Parable as one of our selections.

Blessings Deanna, Just learned that parable this month...but I really like how you illustrated it. Really vivid cleaning illustration or cleansing in our case...there's one big difference with the Pumpkins & us...once they are cleaned out...it never gets filled up again with yucky...but sadly, we allow some of that yucky back in and keeps us from truly being emptied, so HE keeps on emptying us, day by day, seed by seed...
With the pumpkin all emptied, it withers & dies nothing to keep it alive...no vine...
but with us, as we stay connected to the Vine,
He keeps emptying us of the yucky and giving us more life to shine for Him, He makes it NEW LIFE after each cleansing so we can have eternal life, shine in this world to shine in His Kingdom for His glory...I'd say that's one WORD FILLED WEDNESDAY! If only are mouths would reflect that daily, there'd be more seed
Enjoy & bless you for your inspiration & light with your photo & words. The verse is my goal!
Thank you for your visit & words for me!

We are doing "How God Carves a Pumpkin" in our Friday Science class...I love it...and your words,"May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight" have me singing one of my FAVORITE songs by Glenn Burley, Order My Steps...

thanks for the blessing!

The Pumpkin Patch Parable is written by Liz Curtis Higgs. She has written other parables such as The Pine Tree Parable (Christmas), The Parable of the Lily (Easter), The Sunflower Parable (salvation/harvest) and more. You can find them at most bookstores as well as www.cbd.com.

My girls loved that book when they were younger! In fact, Ella Numera Dos was just asking me about it the other day. Our kids' library from When the World Was Very Young is scattered all over the house. Ella Dos is advocating gathering all the books up and putting them in their own bookcase!
