Building the Pentagon

Big Guy is building a model of the pentagon. Doesn't that sound fun? Amusing's son is building a model of the Great Wall of China. Another friend's son is building a model of some bridge. This is all for math class.

In additional to building a model of the pentagon, Big Guy is also creating an abstract art piece of a bengal tiger. He went through all of my art materials to find random items that he could put together to create this tiger.

This is all in addition to the SAT word project where he has to cut out words from magazines that illustrate the SAT vocabulary words that they are learning each week.

Have I mentioned that I absolutely HATE, HATE, HATE random and sometimes, meaningless projects?

This is definitely going into my "con" column about school when it comes to praying about whether or not to homeschool my boys next year.

That is a lot to put on a child, it almost sounds like he in college. I mean is momma is going to busy doing projects? I agree maybe homeschool is not a bad idea.

I don't have a problem with them, in context. However, when there's a big test coming up, don't distract from the main goal.

I'm not looking forward to some of the utter stupidity that I know I will have to endure for Mini-me's education. However, I ALSO know, having been homeschooled myself, that neither Mini-me NOR I, are cut out for that at my house.

Unfortunately, a lot of schools are all about meaningless projects anymore

Makes you wonder what workshop they all went to...or if they had the evaluation point made that they must incorporate at least 3 "projects" into their curriculum, no matter the subject.

Those magazine projects are the WORST. I don't keep old magazines around so I always had to go and buy a few when those projects came up!

I didn't know you were considering homeschooling. You're braver than I am because I wouldn't even consider it! (in retrospect, I kinda wish I had)

I know this was an old project, but do you have the links for the Pentagon templates you used - we're coming up on our own pentagon project! (3rd grader! ugh!)

Bev, we found our model at this link:

Like you said, that was a few years ago. There may be more updated and better models somewhere now.
