Tidbits

Carrie AND MS Mom tagged me and asked me to post six random things about myself. I can't even remember how Carrie and I ran into each other in this blogging world, but we have discovered that we could really be good friends. And not just good friends, but the kind of friends who could stir up a LOT of trouble together!!  MS Mom is one of my favorite stops of my blogging day.    She is funny, smart and amazingly witty.

1. I have jumped off an Olympic diving board. Our church's World Youth Congress was held on the grounds of Oaxtepec, Mexico which was the site of the 1968 Olympics. I still remember the stark fear I had standing up there and shaking trying to convince myself to jump off.

2. My husband asked me to stand on a couch for our first kiss. He is 6'5" and I am 5'2". We had been on a couple of dates and when he decided to kiss me he sort of leaned over and then backed up and said, "Would you mind standing on the couch?" (I tried not to jump up there too fast!) Oh, man, can he kiss!

3. I performed in the 1983 World's Fair in New Orleans. I was in a song and dance troupe with my high school and we were asked by the Governor to go and be a part of the entertainment for Mississippi week. It was so much fun missing school for a multi day "field trip", performing a couple times a day and then exploring the fair and the city the rest of the time.

4. Growing up I wanted to be a nurse. I volunteered as a candy striper at our local hospital. Two events made me realize I couldn't cut it: 1.) Fainting at blood and 2.) Doing service at the E.R. and seeing a gunshot victim and a car wreck victim. My heart couldn't take it.

5. Bridges and tunnels give me the creeps. I dread driving through Mobile just because I hate driving through that tunnel or over that long bridge... same thing with going to New Orleans. I am so paranoid I have window punches in my car.

6. Before I was born, my Grandmother wanted my parents to name me Opsie Lee. Thank GOODNESS my parents didn't listen to her!

These are very cool little factoids, Deanna! The diving board would have scared me - I don't like heights! That is SO COOL that you performed at the World's Fair. Not something too many people have done, I would imagine. Heck, I've never even BEEN to one! I hear ya on the bridges and tunnels. I traveled once from Atlanta to Dallas and it never occurred to me I'd have to cross the Mississippi River. I nearly had a heart attack. Opsie? Where'd she get that, is it a family name?

Hey Opsie Lee. Oh, I mean Deanna. That was funny. Thank goodness for your parents common sense! I love the jumping on the couch for a kiss story. Loved the list.
BTW, thanks for coming by a looking at the houses. It is not really a new business, just trying to help some people get exposure for their homes for sale. Actually, one of those houses may be mine :oD We just thought we would try. Figured it couldn't hurt. God can use the internet to sale a house. Right? We are just helping Him. As if He needs help.

Oh yeah, I don't like the bridges and tunnels, either!

I absolutely LOVED the 1984 World's Fair. My mom and I had season passes and we were there 3-4 times a week easy that summer.

Opsie?? Yeah, I'd say that's a big feee-yooof that your Grandmother was not the person who named you!! I'm behind on commenting, but I'll catch up later today on your posts. I've got to make a trip to the Wal-Marts...

Willow - Lee is definitely a family name (my Grandfather's). Opsie? Who knows! Tons of weird Southern names on my Daddy's side of the family.

Wifey - Watch out! :-)

Lisa - I hope your house sells quickly. It is gorgeous!

MS Mom - I adore you, you know!

Doghouse - We probably passed each other that week! Isn't it a small world?

Mayberry - You should see our wedding photos. I look like a midget.

Supermom - You and me both!

Carrie - Loved my Grandmother and I miss her tomato gravy to this day, but she just had some crazy ideas about names. If you find any great deals at Wal-Mart let us know!

Betty - Don't you dare do that to your sweet little butterbean!

Wow - I have the same bridge/tunnel phobia.

And I too went to the NOLA World's Fair. My homeroom class won a contest by collecting Pepsi cans/caps. Who knows? We may have passed one another there. It's a small world.

Jenn - It is never too late!

Sandi - Before I knew what they wanted to name me I thought Deanna was weird!!

Belle - How cool is that?

I have the tunnel fear too and bridges! I want to know where you got the window punches? I have never seen them for sale anywhere, otherwise I would have bunches of them.
And what is tomato gravy? I asked Alice (I think) before and never got an answer.
Tomatoes and gravy are my favorite foods, so tomato gravy is something I really need to know about!! LOL!!

Heather - You can get window punches at Wal-Mart, hardware stores, Amazon... Tomato gravy is just that - a gravy made with tomatoes. Visit my cooking blog for the recipe!

All quite interesting tidbits! An Olympic diving board? A spring board or one of those REALLY HIGH platforms?

Deanna said...

Veggie - a really high Platform!

Opsie Lee. Wow, that is some name. Thank goodness your parents don't listen LOL.

Those were some great answers. Sorry I'm so behind on your blog, being on vacation is really cutting into my blogging time. I'll be sure not to go anywhere for a very long time after this :)

I was at Oaxtepec in 1983 and also in Louisville, KY (just got back) with my sons. I posted some photos of the many different district Tshirts on facebook (Stephen J Bennett).

Stephen, I hope you are doing well. It feels like forever since we were in Oaxtepec, but the experiences of that time are so vivid in my mind. That was such a life altering time for me.
