When my Big Guy walks up to me, I am still stunned that we are looking eye to eye. When did that happen? He entered middle school this year. He is exploring music, movies, games, videos even more... deciding what he likes. But when it boils down to it, we are his parents and we still set the guidelines.
Recently, when he wanted to watch The Dark Knight, he accepted our veto much easier after we had a chance to voice our concerns and gave him the chance to read the review provided by our favorite review site, "Plugged In Online".
I turned to PluggedIn to find out about P.O.D. when Big Guy started talking about this music group he thought was so cool.
I have spent the first eleven years of Big Guy's life teaching him that "whatever you are filled with spills when you are bumped". The middle school years are very bumpy -- it hasn't been that long ago -- I remember. That is why I plan to continue to use PluggedIn Online as a resource to evaluate the games, videos, music and television that my sons are interested in.
I'm the Mom.... that's my job.

I had no idea such a site existed. What a great idea. I love your bumped/spilled analogy.
You are doing a great job with your kids.
I know that feeling of 'where did the time go' even though I don't have a middle schooler yet. Last night, my 10 1/2 year old asked what pubic hair was....because he HAD SOME!! YIKES! How did that happen?
I am amazed how much good info I get from your site. I will use that site for my boys. My oldest is in his last year of Middle School, and I now look up to him. You blink , and that little boy turns into a Man.
I have to say coming to your blog is refreshing. Although I'm not bashing other bloggers by any means yours is so uplifting and positive! (Unlike mine I'm sure!)
I'll have to check out that site.
I had not heard of that site. It seems pretty useful, I'll have to start using it. Your big guy has pretty good taste in music, I like POD as well. :-)
We have used this site for quite a while too. Not only for info for our children but also for us..it is expensive to go to the movies only to decide that it is not what you want to watch for 2 hours. We parents need to be able to make informed decisions and knowing this information helps.
what a great resource!
if you have room on your page, i have another award waiting for you on my blog :)
Deanna, you ALWAYS have the best tips! I wanted to share something with you...I used one of your tips yesterday! I was grocery shopping, and needed a green pepper. I looked for the ones with only THREE points on the bottom instead of four, and I found a couple. BTW, they were delish! Thanks! :)
Hey Deanna! I found your blog a few months ago via Sara's and have been "stalking" it since then. It seems unreal that your guys are as old as they are, of course it seems crazy to me that I am old enough to have two children myself!
I can remember when you married your Prince Charming!!! Hope to see you soon!
Thanks for the sweet support over at my place. And for the awesome tips over at your place!
I love Plugged In... great resource. Agree 100%
