Word Filled Wednesday

Fear is a funny thing. When I was little I was so scared of the dark. I could jump from my bed to my light switch without ever touching the floor. I just knew that the monsters that lived under my bed could reach out and grab me if my feet touched the floor.

Now that I am older, I know that there aren't any monsters under my bed, but there are still moments when I feel that fear creeping up on me.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
(2 Timothy 1:7)

"Yea, though I will walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil. For You are with me. Your rod and Your staff they comfort me."
Psalm 23:4

I find great comfort in all the Scriptures on fear. It helps me to know that fear is a God given emotion that helps us in appropriate situations (like when we are in the path of danger), but that it is not a spirit that is to guide our lives. I just finished reading a book that talked about how Satan uses the spirit of fear, discouragement, temptation, envy, strife, etc... to try to lead us away from Him. I am so glad to know that God's intention is to guard us from those things and to never leave us or forsake us and to comfort us.

That is so true. I often go to that verse when fear starts creeping in on me. I like the 2 Tim verse also. Have a happy WFW!

Loved the picture! I also struggled with fear as a child and these verses give the assurance and comfort that only God can give. Thank you for sharing.

I need to help my 9-year-old memorize that verse. She is very scared of lots of different things and maybe being able to claim that scripture when she's scared would help.

Blessings Deanna...You have depicted two of my favorite verses so well with your photo! 2 Timothy is my life saving verse and when ever
I find myself in a fearful situation Psalm 23 floods my mind! Thank you for sharing on these two special verses and your own precious words
on how fear can be used to lead us away from Christ! Enjoy your Word Filled Wednesday!

Deanna,
The image of you jumping from the bed to the light switch is one I am very familiar with - my youngest sister did the same thing. I learned that there are 365 verses in the Bible that pertain to "Fear Not" "Do Not Fear" - one for every day of the year!!!

Happy WFW!

I wish I would've known this verse when I was young enough to be scared of the dark! :) I was always so fearful of those monsters under the bed that I couldn't even get OUT of my bed... I was almost paralyzed. Great verse!

Happy WFW!

Great photo to go with this verse. There is a healthy fear and then there's that fear that freezes us. It's good keep our hearts and minds on Him. Thanks for your words...

your photo is great with that verse. I was afraid of the dark when I was little also. If the truth be known, I'm still not so happy in the dark basement...

you know that's been my past 2 weeks, i think Satan's been fighting us on sending our kids to the Christian school and trying to dampen our spirits with every tactic... this is my favorite verse i learnt it as a child and it's always helped me through! thanks for posting it and reminding me today that this is just a valley!

The evil one would love for us to be in bondage to fear. Thanks for sharing this blessing today.

Amen, Deanna! I was providentially humming Psalm 23 when I clicked at your blog! "Yea, though I will walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil. For You are with me. Your rod and Your staff they comfort me." has been my experience many times. I have fear but when I cast my fears upon our Lord, He gives me peace and grace sufficient to go through the valley that He allows in my life. Praise Him! Thanks for sharing this precious verse and encouraging post. Love the picture! Great visual! Take care and God bless!

I love the 23rd Psalm and if applied it is a great reminder we don't have to fear anything except the Lord and trust when we are danger the Holy Spirit warns and we have adifferent kind of fear. Thanks for these thoughts and the picture was a great example.
