Haley's Angels

Delvan and I have been friends since childhood. I adore him. He is funny and charming and most of all, he loves his kids. His daughter, Haley, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a few years ago. His Daddy's heart can't stand to watch her struggle with this disease. I know Delvan. He would take it from her if he could, but since he can't he is doing what he can. He supports Haley each year as she captains a team at the Juvenile Diabetes "Walk for a Cure!". This year's walk will be held on October 18th at Mayes Lake (LeFleur's Bluff State Park) and will begin at 9:00 a.m.

For more information, visit Delvan's blog: Haley's Angels

Statistics and Warning Signs
· As many as 3 million Americans may have type 1 diabetes.
· Each year over 15,000 children are diagnosed with diabetes in the U.S. That's 40 children per day.
· Warning signs of type 1 diabetes include: extreme thirst, frequent urination, drowsiness or lethargy, increased appetite, sudden weight loss for no reason, sudden vision changes, sugar in urine, fruity odor on breath, heavy or labored breathing, stupor or unconsciousness. These may occur suddenly.

Kids should be kids. They shouldn't have to deal with a disease -- any disease. Let's pull out or wallet or put on our walking shoes to help!

AWWW, There is a guy at my Job his son has it too, and has found it very difficult in rolling him into school, he cannot go on filed trips with the rest of the kids, it's a very sad situation, and I know Bill wishes he could take this from his child. My heart goes out to him and all parents that have this problem/situation in there life.

That is great that the dad is so involved. I know so many young children are suffering from this horrible disease...

Thanks for sharing that story! It is wonderful to see parents helping out their kids. It's so sad when children are diagnosed with something that takes them away from just being a kid.

Is this Delvan, the columnist for The Clinton News? I had no idea he was involved in this organization. Thanks for posting ... he sounds like a great guy!

Sandi - Yes! It is. And he is definitely a great guy.

Deanna, thanks for sharing this with us. I'm a big diabetes supporter since most of Studly's disabilities come from diabetes that went undiagnosed for years. I've bookmarked the Haley's Angels page and will be making a donation on payday.

Thanks everyone! I know Delvan will appreciate your support whether it be financial or just words of encouragement on his blog page!
